Beauty Conscious for Sensitive Skin

For most women, applying cosmetics is an important step of their routine, rather a part of it. But, for those with sensitive skin, this beauty transformation may prove to be tricky as they do their best to avoid makeup cosmetic irritation and the resulting skin rashes. While some such women may need to avoid makeup altogether, others can do well by following simple rules for keeping the sensitive skin at its best.

These points are also important from the viewpoint that many ladies complain of irritation or tingling after the use of any makeup cosmetic. The problem may be aggravated if the beautician isn’t aware of the skin type and uses all types of cosmetics while performing a facial or grooming a bride. The result is that the bride gets skin rashes on the day of her marriage. And this happens often.

Smart tips for you:

  • Throw out old makeup cosmetics. Beware of the expiry dates on your makeup cosmetic and be quick to throw them out immediately.
  • Use black mascara and eyeliners because black is the least allergenic of all products.
  • Choose a powder when possible. These powders help to remove the shine, also they have very few preservatives and ingredients that can cause skin irritation.
  • Avoid waterproof cosmetics although waterproof mascara is a necessity for the summers as trickling down with the sweat can be avoided. But removing it requires a solvent that also removes the protective oils from the skin. Hence the skin is exposed to a variety of irritants.
  • Use pencil eyeliners and eyebrow fillers. These are wax based and contain minimal preservatives, making them least irritating. Also they can be removed with the water that makes them skin friendly.
  • Use light colored eye shadows – colors like cream, tan white or beige causes less upper lid irritation. The high concentration of the pigments in darker color irritates the skin.
  • Use products containing not more than 10 ingredients. The fewer the products, the less likely they are to cause problems. Avoid nail polishes : wet nail polish can be easily smudged and chipped. Also it gets transferred to a person’s eye and face before it dries. This causes irritation of facial skin as well. Many a times, allergic contact dermatitis can be traced and a result of nail polishes.
  • Make-up and cosmetics are a great way to enhance a woman’s appearance. But if you have sensitive skin and find that they are harming more than helping you, consult your dermatologist. She can help determine the right beauty regimen for you.
