People who are physically passive, face many health problems in the long run. Heart attack is the most common problem faced by lethargic people. Hence, fitness is important in many aspects of life. It is the key to good health, which affects how we live our life. There are three main elements of fitness – Strength, Flexibility and Endurance. These three elements are combined in almost all fitness programmes, especially those that are designed to offer a balanced and healthy active lifestyle. Lets understand these three elements
Strength
Strength is the extent to which muscles can exert force by contracting against resistance (e.g. holding or restraining an object or person). Strength training is any strength exercise that uses resistance – like weights – to strengthen and condition the musculo-skeletal system, thus improving muscle tone and endurance, and boosting lean body mass. Strength training includes rowing, climbing stairs, as well as fitness exercises like pushups. “Strength-training” is used as a general term synonymous with other common terms: “weightlifting” and “resistance training.”
