Hair Style Tips – Hair Highlighting Tips

Hair highlighting has become an art form of its own, and the results that can be achieved from streaking the hair with different shades of color are virtually endless. A lot depends on the natural hair color, and the number of tinted or bleached tones being added. Top coloring experts might use as many as four shades to create a particular effect.

On all blonde shades from the very fairest to the almost browns-hair highlights provide warmth and excitement and give the impression of movement and volume to the hair. A mixture of shades works superbly on blonde shades, especially if the concentration of hair streaks is to the front.

Rich red and deep gold hair streaks work well on mid-brown hair. Red, in deeper tones can look superb on brunettes-the blonde shades are best avoided unless the hair is cropped very short and worn in a spiky or feathery style.

It is possible to highlight hair at home, but the results are rarely satisfactory. It takes a long time to section the hair correctly, and to pick up the right amount of each hair highlight requires a professional touch. Although a hair highlighting session at the salon can be expensive, the end results make the outlay worthwhile. You can usually wait several months before having another session since even when the re-growth shows the overall effect of highlighting remains the same.

The most successful of all the hair highlighting methods involves the use of silver foil squares. Each section of hair to be colored is wrapped in its own individual square until the tint or bleach takes hold.

Bleached hair highlights are longer lasting than tinted hair streaks or lowlights. The latter will fade over a period of time so it might be necessary to use a color conditioner at home every three weeks or so.

Blonde hair takes on a whole new dimension with feather-fine hair streaks of different shades. Most salons offer full head or half head streaks-the latter is highlights on the front half of the head only. All coloring products can be drying to hair, so you should use a conditioner regularly after hair highlighting. For fun, you could try paint-on hair streaks. This is a simple and speedy process in which color streaks are brushed on the dry hair without the use of fail. Once these hair streaks have taken, the hair is shampooed in the usual way. Although the overall density of proper streaking cannot be achieved, the finished effect gives the hair a real lift.
