Hair Home Perming
Hair Style Tips – Home perms – Home Permanents
Hair and beauty salon costs are forever increasing, and there is now a good variety of excellent home perm kits on the market. If you feel you can confidently cope with the section and hair rolling, or have a friend willing to help you, it seems sensible to give yourself a perm at home.
Home perm kits contain the hair home perming solution and often a sponge applicator plus the neutralizer. Some even include a selection of hair rollers. Always use plastic hair rollers, not metal ones, because the metal may react with the chemicals in the perm solution.
If the look you want is tight, all over curls, it is vital to get someone to help you with rolling the hair at the back of the head. Remember, you will need very small hair rollers to create the corkscrew effect.
Wash your hair, using a mild shampoo designed for your hair type. Towel-dry your hair, and keep a towel around your shoulders to protect your clothing.
Put the home perming solution in a small plastic bowl. Starting at the nape of the neck and working forward, take a small section of hair sponge it well with the solution, and wind it around the hair roller. If the brand of perm you buy states that the perming solution should be applied after the hair rollers are in, follow those instructions accordingly. If your hair is to be sponged with solution first, you should sponge over the hair rollers again after rolling.
After the required time, which is usually between 15 and 30 minutes, rinse your hair thoroughly while the hair rollers are still in place. Then apply the neutralizer most of these are in mousse form.
Within five to ten minutes, the perm will be ‘fixed’ and the neutralizer will have realigned and structure of your hair. After the rollers are removed, you must wait a few minutes before rinsing your hair for the final time.
The home perming process is very drying, so condition your hair after every shampoo, and use a conditioning oil treatment once a week. Don’t try to create a straight style, by using a brush and dryer, for at least a week after the perm. The hair may split or snap. Avoid heated tongs and rollers for the same reason. For maximum curl, leave your hair to dry naturally after washing and conditioning, and add a touch of gloss with gel. Treat your new curls gently, and don’t apply hair color products before the recommended time.
