How to Know our hair types
Although no two people have exactly the same sort of hair, the majority fall in to one of the three main categories used to classify hair types. These come under the heading of dry hair, greasy hair and normal hair.
Dry Hair
Dry hair feels rough to the touch and lacks shine and glow. In severe cases it may become almost straw like in appearance, and tend to break and split. Naturally dry hair lacks the moisture necessary to keep hair in soft silky condition and it is often associated with dry skin.
More often than not, however, dry hair is the result of bad treatment. External factors are the main culprit. These include too much heat (from over-enthusiastic use of electric rollers, tongs or dryers), and over processing as a result of bleaching, tinting and perming.
For dry hair, regular conditioning is essential and a weekly deep-moisturizing treatment is recommended. If you suffer from split ends, have them cut off as soon as possible. Otherwise, the split may continue along the full length of the hair.
Greasy Hair
Greasy hair presents a different set of problems. The condition is usually due to internal rather than external factors. Greasy hair needs frequent washing with a mild shampoo to remove the excess oil produced by the sebaceous glands.
Greasy hair should only be brushed or combed when necessary. Playing with the hair or rubbing the scalp should be avoided. Since these only serve to stimulate the oil producing glands. Greasy hair often becomes lank and oily within a day of washing. So a dry shampoo in spray or powder form is a sensible solution. These shampoos soak up the excess oil and dirt.
Normal Hair
For normal hair wash your hair daily. Apply shampoo only once. The normal hair requires a certain amount of natural oil if it is to stay healthy and elastic. Much can be done to correct most hair problems that result from dryness or excess oil. Gentle treatment and avoiding harsh hair products are important, but diet may play a role too. If you are lucky enough to have naturally healthy hair that would be classified as normal, look after it well and make the most of your valuable asset. If your hair is a mixture-dry in parts, normal in others-use conditioner on the dry parts only. This will almost always be the ends. Have dry, splitting hair trimmed regularly to avoid further breaks
